17th Century Flemish Old Master Painting Circle of Frans Francken
 
Rare 17th century Flemish School painting, circle of Frans Francken the Younger (1581-1642). This Cabinet picture, a small old master painting, is created in oil on a wood panel. Many of Francken’s works are small historical or biblical Cabinet paintings with the focus on figures. The theme of this piece is the third Station of the Cross. It recalls the walk Jesus took on the Via Dolorosa in Jerusalem to Mount Calvary. This masterpiece exhibits all the expression and richness of the characters as well as the chromatic palette. It is framed in a Louis XIV ornate gilded frame, typical of the period. The condition of the oil painting is very good. The period frame is in good. condition with minor distress, commensurate with age.
