19th century French gilt mantel clock with wood base, girl with bird This Napoleon III ornate mantel (fireplace) clock has a great gilt finish. It was created in France in the late 19th century. The clock sits on it's original velvet covered wood base. The clock itself sits on four scrolled feet. The charming A-symmetrical pediment shares features that accentuate the sculpture and the barrel shaped enamel clock face. A girl has caught a bird with outstretched wings in her hand. The clock face, in Roman numerals reads easily.
Note a crack in the enamel around VII-VIII (untouched). The clock is in working condition and includes the pendulum and winding key. A gentle bell strikes on the hour and the half hour. The clock is impressed with an illegible mark on the back.
