Early 19th Century French Empire Bouillotte Three Light Table Lamp.

Beautiful French Empire brass Bouillotte lamp with three dolphin decorated scrolled arms. A finely chiselled stem supports the branches with three fine bobeches. It rests on a masterfully chiselled circular dish base. The red and gold painted original tole shade has a charming swan heads mounting. It can slide up and down a central shaft which is topped with a brass eagle and is secured by an arrow screw. This lamp has been wired for electrical use.

The Bouillotte lamp takes its name from a popular French card game called Bouillotte that emerged in the eighteenth century and sustained a following well into the next century. Such a lamp would sit at the center of a round table, known fittingly as a Bouillotte table and serve as the key source of light for players. The lamp is in good working condition. Wear commensurate with age and use.
