Jacoba van Heemskerck Abstract Composition Painting Circa 1920. Provenance

Expressionist Abstract painting in oil on canvas. Original untouched condition. From the studio of the artist.

Jacoba van Heemskerck 1876-1923 was a Dutch avant-garde painter, stained glass designer and graphic artist. She attended classes at the Royal Academy of Art in the Netherlands and in Paris with Eugene Carriere. She worked with avant garde painters such as Piet Mondriaan and the German Expressionists Franz Marc, Kandinsky and Jawlensky. Heemskerck developed a style of abstract symbolism with compositions of pictorial space, black contours and intensive use of color. Her style was eventually so abstract that her subjects became unrecognizable. Her art can be found at the National Gallery of Art, the MoMa New York and museums in Brussels, Paris, Berlin and the United States.

The painting is in found condition and untouched. It is unsigned and unframed.
